Dainese Butterfly Mount
Problem Statement
Helmet mounts lack character. It’s always function over form. But what if it doesn’t have to be the case? What if there’s a mount that’s both form and function?

The Base
After going through numerous helmet mounts, all failing one after another, and staring at a nub on the wall when it’s not in use, I decided to try my hand at making my own mount.

My first helmet mount was not unlike this one. Functionally, it’s very simple, however the way it curves on the bottom, if there’s too much weight on the swingarm, it can cause the mount to rip off the wall, which unfortunately I’ve had happen on multiple occasions

My solution was a triangular base in order to distribute the weight better against the wall, and without a curved bottom that would give a leverage point for the mount
The Process
A couple models later, the first prototype was ready. A simple hanger with a sturdy base, and the Dainese logo to spruce things up, and represent the brand. Supports were cut out in order to create a sturdy stand while reducing weight of the overall unit. Slots were added in order to put hangers on to support hanging of suits.
However, two issues remain. One, the design is still not the most appealing. And two, the swingarm still protrudes out too much, and when helmets and gear are hung on, the weight can cause stability issues.

The Tech
The first prototype worked, but there was still work to be done. After month of testing, I knew there was something missing. I was staring at a clock, waiting for time to pass by, holding the centerpiece of the mount in my hand, when it hit me. What if I integrated clock arms to the mount?

Dainese Butterfly Mount
I got to work, redesigning my helmet mount. two swingarms, interwoven and combined for strength. 180 degrees of positioning, and the centerpiece? It opens up to create the Dainese logo when the mount is not in use.

Dainese Butterfly Mount

It’s not often that a project of mine sees daily use, but this project is one that I’m proud of, and a product that I’m proud to use every day, and maybe someday, it can be a product that sees more walls and helmets than just my own. A product that can bring joy to more people than just me.
